Cobas : On the other hand.... where is it again? Cobas : 'night. DErvKYele : ::points out window to the endless blackness of space:: Erv tResan : ::sighs, enters the lift, goes to her quarters:: Ael tVecj : L Ael tVecj : oops Ael tVecj : K'Yele, this is the Galae Commander, Nei'Rae tr'Lan. Erv tResan : ::sees Kari, goes over to her:: Ael tVecj : Lord high master, meet my partner in crime, K'Yele NRae trLan : The Ever-Present Typo Monster Stikess again! DErvKYele : ::smiles, nods:: Jolan Tru, Rekkhai. Erv tResan : <::hands him a bottle of Typo-B-Gone(TM)::> NRae trLan : ::Nods:: Your commander regards you highly. DErvKYele : She does? Oh, goodie. :) Ael tVecj : Ie...he agrees with me. Thats why. ;) NRae trLan : How's the website? Ael tVecj : I havent updated it in ages. :( Thinking of seeing if I could get someone else to. NRae trLan : Oh, D'oH! I forgot the latest update announcement... NRae trLan : I think I've debugged the New Trial Page. Ael tVecj : Oh, good! NRae trLan : Hey, if you want when I get back I could take over the updates... NRae trLan : I'd just need clearance. Ael tVecj : Well, I'll go through and make all the major changes yet... Ael tVecj : The worst thing is the Hornet. Some ships DO actually send in summaries every week for me to Ael tVecj : put up. :) NRae trLan : Sounds like your not sure if you want to pass it on... Ael tVecj : Its a lot of work..I'd hate to dump it on someone. NRae trLan : Well, we could always take turns... Ael tVecj : Aye...:) NRae trLan : ::looks to K'Yele:: Sorry, didn't mean to go of on a random tangent like that... DErvKYele : That's okay. NRae trLan : ::thwaks himself:: I do that sometimes... DErvKYele : I'm sure the Galae Commander stuff is hard work, you need to talk to partners. NRae trLan : I rarely get to actually chat with anyone anymore... It's all via e-mail. NRae trLan : I miss it. NRae trLan : Anyways, if you need the assist I'm here. DErvKYele : Hmm... sometimes I'm commanding and need SGV's... DErvKYele : Or SGF's, if you'd prefer... ;) Ael tVecj : I almost wish t'Reki hadnt taken that new post..:) DErvKYele : Why's that? DErvKYele : Oh, no more SGV's. Ael tVecj : Yeah. NRae trLan : Always like a special appearance... But for the moment my job make it... DErvKYele : Oh, well, I'm sure she'll make a good regular, too. NRae trLan : ...tough to appear on a Sat night. It took a vacation to be free tonight. DErvKYele : Recurring guest star is okay, but STAR? REGULAR? That's great. Ael tVecj : Yeah...its a rough night. DErvKYele : So, is it hard to juggle everything in the FKA with your RL? NRae trLan : I may be changing jobs soon, so that might open, but... NRae trLan : My RL & the FKA have been at it for... 2 years now? DErvKYele : Wow. DErvKYele : I could never do that, and I'm only in school, nevermind real worklife... NRae trLan : I'm jugling work & school... That's why I jumped at the chanceto run the Firestorm. NRae trLan : E-Mail sims can be much easier to work a schedule around. Ael tVecj : In two weeks, I'll have college and FKA... DErvKYele : Ie... but they must be a LOT more boring. :) NRae trLan : But they can get slow... DErvKYele : Two weeks? NRae trLan : Yes, but they can get SOOOOOO much more detailed and dramatic! DErvKYele : Long. DErvKYele : ;) Ael tVecj : yup..:) DErvKYele : Really? Look at some of our sims! We get detailed and dramatic! DErvKYele : :) NRae trLan : I know... I really miss that interaction... DErvKYele : Today's, in my opinion was sorta good AND bad. It was an action DErvKYele : (AKA shoot-em-up) DErvKYele : sim... DErvKYele : bad. NRae trLan : But there are just somet things you can't do in 50 minutes... Ael tVecj : ::grunt:: DErvKYele : But it was done nicely for an action sim. DErvKYele : Good. DErvKYele : Right. That's what you do in logs... Ael tVecj : Well, ideally, the sim would just be an interaction time to boost the logs and the storyline... DErvKYele : Really? NRae trLan : Now, it's really hard to do action-oriented plots by e-mail. Ael tVecj : *ideally* :) DErvKYele : Sheesh, personally I think that the logs and story is based on the sim, not vice versa. DErvKYele : Ie. DErvKYele : ::continues juggling a million different conversations, wonders how it's coming from three NRae trLan : Most live sims end up that way. DErvKYele : mouths:: NRae trLan : All in all, the Firestorm has been a great sim. Some extremely intracate plots have... Ael tVecj : Well, either way you look at it is fine. NRae trLan : been developing lately. I'll have to send some your way. DErvKYele : I can understand that, but still, even plot isn't everything. Sometimes you need a little DErvKYele : action, too, or it gets boring. DErvKYele : That's the hardest part of commanding, I think, keeping that balance. NRae trLan : Since I took command of the Firestorm, I've been shot at, blown up, assasinated, divorced, NRae trLan : mind-wiped, promoted, lost friends... DErvKYele : Uhhmm... In no particular order, right? Ael tVecj : eek. NRae trLan : No... But my crew has been VERY creative. NRae trLan : Right now I'm in a love triangle between the ship's khiensa, Daise Science NRae trLan : , = & NRae trLan : I love the khiensa... the Khiensa thinks I love the daise Science, & the Daise has noclue. NRae trLan : It's stuff like this that I live for. GREAT writing material. DErvKYele : Having no clue... Hmm... Ael tVecj : Bah..Hnoiyika can out-love story any sim..:) DErvKYele : I know that feeling. ::glances at the Enarrian:: ~~I haven't forgotten the IT/AN thing yet, DErvKYele : you know.~~ DErvKYele : :) NRae trLan : Well, at least that she's hinted to.,.. Ael tVecj : eep. NRae trLan : *wild eep* NRae trLan : {s "wild eep"} DErvKYele : ::hears the inrihan eep, stares at Lan:: NRae trLan : {s wild eep} Ael tVecj : Capital S NRae trLan : < Ael tVecj : *WIld Eep* DErvKYele : *stbarn* DErvKYele : One of the funniest WAV's I've ever heard. DErvKYele : :) NRae trLan : All I got on here iz the basics... NRae trLan : That from the ep with the Irish people in the cargo bay? DErvKYele : Nuh-uh. DErvKYele : Star Trek vs. Barney. NRae trLan : I have Ode 2 Spot & Lifeforms at home. DErvKYele : Even from THAT, you can probably think how funny it is. NRae trLan : I saw a Barney Patch for Doom once... DErvKYele : So did I. DErvKYele : Now how did we get to Doom? DErvKYele : :) NRae trLan : Everyone ends up at Doom sometimes... DErvKYele : Anyway, I also have 'Make It So" and "Spot! .......................... " from DErvKYele : Generations. NRae trLan : I want a Trek Shooter! Phasering Borg NRae trLan : Only prob is we'd probly have an anti-Romy section. Ael tVecj : K'Yele, your DR character near Leth? :) DErvKYele : Unless I was dreaming, I heard they were coming out with one on Sony Playstation. DErvKYele : Uhh, my DR's character's gone. Poof, I don't wanna pay the fee to play on the web. Ael tVecj : Ack! Ael tVecj : Drat. NRae trLan : StarFleet Academy... But I think it's a Classic Trek Flight Sim. DErvKYele : And anyway, I'm sure the lag is horrid on the web anyway. DErvKYele : No, a different one. NRae trLan : DR? Ael tVecj : Yup, it is pretty bad...almost as bad as AOL. :) DErvKYele : A Startrek-esque Doom. Ael tVecj : DragonRealms. DErvKYele : Yeahbut think of it when I'm accessing the web ON aol! Ael tVecj : Like Gemstone, Modus Operandi, Federation... DErvKYele : ::screams, runs to the TL, runs back:: Ael tVecj : Well, I'm accessing the web on an x2 line. :) NRae trLan : They charge for it now? DErvKYele : Ah. DErvKYele : Yeah, when it moved to the web. DErvKYele : What, 10 bucks a month, right? Ael tVecj : Yup. Ael tVecj : Better than AOL's $2/hour..:) NRae trLan : D'oH! I used to enjoy it. DErvKYele : Of course, I do the 20/unlimited plan myself. Ael tVecj : I pay $12/month, I have 3 characters. :) NRae trLan : I'm waiting for Diablo if I wanna do OnLine Roleplay. Ael tVecj : I heard Diablo was awesome. DErvKYele : And another thing, they're moving EVERY SINGLE ONE of the Online Roleplay games I like. DErvKYele : Two that I didn't really like that much are going premium. Ael tVecj : Well, Im ADDICTED to DR... Ael tVecj : And I think its fair for Simu to charge, since they have to support themselves on a website. :) NRae trLan : I used to be... but my bill weaned me... NRae trLan : that was pre-unlimited tho. DErvKYele : And I'd try some worldplay roleplaying games, but I don't have AOL for Win95, and my DErvKYele : computer isn't good enough to get it. NRae trLan : 386? 286? DErvKYele : 486. DErvKYele : 8 megs of ram, you need 16. Ael tVecj : Cant run Win95 on an old 486. NRae trLan : Got it. DErvKYele : And besides, I CANNOT afford 50 meg of HD space, even when I delete old AOL. Ael tVecj : ::pats her 210 604e powered computer:: NRae trLan : :Drools:: Ael tVecj : ::mercifully logs her poor WM before the cougs and dryads kill her:: DErvKYele : I only have a 480 meg HD to begin with... Ael tVecj : 17" monitor, 2 gid HD... Ael tVecj : Only 32 MB of RAM, which I use up. :( Need to expand to at least 64...I want 90 though... DErvKYele : You're up to the Cougars? Man, I could never get a single character even past level 1! Ael tVecj : Good thing you quit then, K'Yele. ;) NRae trLan : ::trying desperately not to shot her and take the 'puter:: DErvKYele : ::snickers:: Ael tVecj : I have a 10th circle Thief, a 6th circle Empath, and a 4th circle WM... Ael tVecj : tr'Lan, I'd kill for your laptop..:P Ael tVecj : Its not running Virtual PC or MacOS8 yet...:/ DErvKYele : I'd kill for a laptop. Anything t'all as long as it's a laptop. NRae trLan : This POS? B/W non-RISC, 12 M RAM... Ael tVecj : Fantastic, trLan! I would kill for that..:) Ael tVecj : I can get secondhand laptops for $500 around here...but I dont even have that much. :( NRae trLan : What's your Loc? DErvKYele : I found an awesome deal at Walmart. Ael tVecj : My LOC? NRae trLan : I don't trust Walmart, Target... (Location) Ael tVecj : k, Ael tVecj : Charlotte, NC. DErvKYele : For a desktop. 827 bucks for a 166-mhz 1-gig HD SVGA monitor pentium, 6x CD-rom... Ael tVecj : Everyone hates Apple here though, maybe if they got a powerbook I'd get lucky. :) DErvKYele : blah blah, yadda yadda, anyway, it was pretty good. Ael tVecj : Yeah...and you want the Pentium chip, the MMX sucks... DErvKYele : And $827. Of course, it has no sound card or speakers. NRae trLan : I just want a nice Mac so I don't have to re-purchase all my software... Ael tVecj : I thought you had a nice Mac... Ael tVecj : Ah...my new mac has 16-bit sound and crappy internal speakers...:/ NRae trLan : One that runs Photoshop, Pagemaker, my 3-d program.. Ael tVecj : Ah... Ael tVecj : All at once? :) DErvKYele : 3-d program? Wazzat? Ael tVecj : ::pats her computer, which is number #1 on the market, and will be for the next few weeks or so:: NRae trLan : My 7200 does too. You can get a good inexpensive set of speakers from Radio.. NRae trLan : Shack. Ael tVecj : Yeah..the speakers help? Ael tVecj : 7200 is nothing to sneeze at..how much Ram? NRae trLan : Real Nice Sound. Stereo Even.. NRae trLan : 32 Ael tVecj : Oooo. Ael tVecj : Ah...running doubler? NRae trLan : 2 M V-Ram DErvKYele : Anybody can get stereo... sheesh. :) NRae trLan : No it hates doubler. Ael tVecj : Aw. :/ DErvKYele : I've got stereo and my PC's about 3 years outdated. NRae trLan : but for a 90 Mhz it runs real nice & stable. 17" monitor... DErvKYele : It's been upgraded once, from 4 meg ram to 8 meg. NRae trLan : Does almost everything I need. DErvKYele : That's it. Ael tVecj : Just expand the RAM then... Ael tVecj : I have 40 in my 25mhz non-RISC downstairs..:) DErvKYele : MY computer's worst downfall is its processor. Ael tVecj : Aye, K'Yele...anything less than RISC is a downfall. :) DErvKYele : 50 mhz 486. The rest of the stuff's decent, but my parents won't buy a faster processor. Ael tVecj : You have a 601? NRae trLan : I need a ram-cache,... Video In-Out... CD Burner... NRae trLan : Think so... I can't upgrade short of replacing the motherboard... DErvKYele : Kinda extreme, wouldn't that be? NRae trLan : Nah... but Apple makes it a pain to doit. Pentiums get switched all the time... Ael tVecj : My computer was $3000, and I still dont have Video In-Out... Ael tVecj : You couldn't even try to do graphics on a PC though... NRae trLan : :smacked his forehead:: TAKE IT BACK!! DErvKYele : $3000? Man, no wonder you don't have 500. DErvKYele : Hey, I resent that. NRae trLan : Get your money and re-invest!! DErvKYele : Graphics like what? Ael tVecj : A video in-out card with 2 MB of VRAM and a TV tuner is like, $500 extra. :) NRae trLan : PC's R getting better... but Macs still can get higher quality. Ael tVecj : Graphics like a Mac can do with 32-bit assembly-level OS, a 604e processor, and Ael tVecj : nice VRAM. :) Ael tVecj : PCs are still running on DOS. NRae trLan : Suddenly realizing she must have bought the monitor as part of the price... DErvKYele : I think PCs' downfalls are the fact that they run in DOS then use Windows as a sort of front DErvKYele : -end. Ael tVecj : Oh yes...17" monitors that have 1600x1200 resolution arent cheap. :) DErvKYele : That takes up a lot of memory itself. Ael tVecj : I'm only running at 1024x700something. Ael tVecj : Do you use Bryce2 ever, tr'Lan? NRae trLan : ::nods:: Yup... Mine only does 1024x726 at millions DErvKYele : Now, Macs, their GUI is THE operating system, not just a fuzzy cover for a more primitve one Ael tVecj : Ah..mine is at Thousands... Ael tVecj : Yup, K'Yele..:) DErvKYele : I gotta go. Ael tVecj : Take care, valiant XO. ;) NRae trLan : Nope. Next MacOS should be multi-platform FYI. DErvKYele : Anyway, nice meeting your, Lord High Commander. DErvKYele : JT both. DErvKYele : :) NRae trLan : ::likes the sound of that:: Ael tVecj : Only JAVA and Mac, though. NRae trLan : Nighters! Ael tVecj : Or, do you mean, that it can run on the Intel and MMX chips? NRae trLan : That's what it sounds like... but I don't have that much info... Ael tVecj : The Java VM will be awesome..we have some Suns at work... NRae trLan : If they pull it off, Apple might just make a comeback... Ael tVecj : Well, Apple can pull off a lot, but they so rarely advertise it...:) NRae trLan : When U got someone like Bill Gates shoving his crap downpeoples throats... Ael tVecj : Aye..I'm glad IBM is on Apple's side.. NRae trLan : you shouldn't be too eager to employ the same tactics... NRae trLan : Who'd've thought? NRae trLan : ::looks at his watch, disbelieves time:: NRae trLan : Not use to early nights yet... Ael tVecj : Well, I need to go to bed... Ael tVecj : Take care...:) NRae trLan : OK nighters!!. 8/10/97 12:14:44 AM Closing Log file.
