All new players start out in this program, regardless of past experience. If you decide we’re the sim for you, you’ll have your pick of any open position on the ship, or the option to create your own position. We’ve had humans, civilians, Senators, and space pirates.

So send an email to strmscalm at AOL or send an instant message to AelvnatVecj any Saturday night you want to drop by and see the action.

A sim is free-form role-playing game a structured setting where each player creates a realistic, three-dimensional character. Storyline and sim movement should be developed primarily through character interactions with other characters and the setting. Each sim will take place as a live, chat room based game once a week for an hour and continuously through mail, individual sims/interactions, and the leader’s storyline direction (sim brief). Each sim will have a designated leader to direct the plot line and organize player/characters. The leader will be the ultimate decider in any big issues that come up, i.e. Should the whole town be blown up? But the characters in the sim will be free to follow the leader’s brief in their own way.

Adapted from Introduction to Rihannsu Simming by retired officer Erein E’toK:

Hello. My name is Ern EtoK. I am the acting chief engineer of the ship you are joining. I myself have only joined recently. I am sending this to you to give you an idea as to what you should expect.

First of all, I HIGHLY suggest printing out the list of Romulan vocabulary words that should have been sent to you. People use then frequently and it is easy to look them up if you have a hard copy.

Also, I don’t know if you are on your own account, but it would be nice if you could set up a screen name for your Romulan character. For instnace, I normally come online as Zemorph, but for sims, my name is Ern EtoK. Ern is short for Erein, my current rank. If I advance, I will change my screen name accordingly. If it is impossible for you to create a new screen name, don’t worry, but if it is at all possible, please do so.

The chat log of the previous week’s sim is posted on the message boards. Read that to get an idea of where the storyline is and what the characters are doing. The Enarrain will provide a briefing at the beginning of the sim.

After that, it is all up to you. You make it up as you go along. That’s the best part about it. Right now, they are “To be continued” of each other. In other words, last week’s story comes before this weeks story. Maybe next week we will continue this story.

Another suggested idea is to write a personal biography so you have some idea as to who your character is personally. On duty, we talk and act almost like Vulcans, but we are people commonly described as “passionate.” At the sim, do not get worked up because you are confused. I was drowning in confusion my first time on. Open an instant message with the Enarrain.

There are three ways to type during a sim…

::Put things inside to colons if it is an action::
((put things inside carats for out of character talk))
Type regularly just for regular talking.

Here is am example:

Aelvna tVecj- ::sits down in command chair:: All officer, report to the bridge
Ern EtoK- ::gets up, walks to bridge::
ChfAndrew ((hey, does anyone know what time it it?))
Aelvna tVecj ((7:15 Pacific time))
Ern EtoK Jolan tru (which means greetings) Enarrain. I trust you are well?
Aelvna tVecj ::thinking “Why is he buttering me up so much?”:: I am well, Erein

That gives you an idea of how things work during a sim. Once in a while, use comedy.

For instance:

Ern EtoK- ChfAndrew, recalibrate the AQS (romulan warp drive)
ChfAndrew- Right. ::reading book about AQS::
Ern EtoK- Get a move on!
ChfAndrew- Ie, rekkai (Aye,Sir) ::reading “chapter one, the AQS is our friend”

By the way, people will NOT put the english translation in. I just did it for teaching purposes.

Also, after the sim, write a Log, or your thoughts about the sim. You can mix between what happened, or what you are thinking. For example, if the sim was long and boring and you run out of things to say, talk about your girl-friend who is on Remus. When you are done, send your log to the crew.

The Enarrain says not to question orders, however, you may do that a little. Remember, Romulans build relationships much of the time based on tension, however, do NOT spend the entire sim arguing with Enar tVecj, or Laru, or me, for that matter. You need to act in character, which means you are new and you are intimidated by all the superiors, or maybe, you hate the Enarrein, but try to hide it. tVecj will not get mad at you for role-playing a hatred, however, her character might. She appreciates creativity. Remember that.
